The Mercatus Center at George Mason University and the Institute for Humane Studies are looking for a Director of Major Gifts to join a fast-paced and growing development team. This is a management-level position that reports directly to the Director of Development. Responsibilities include the planning and implementation of major gift strategies for prospective and current individuals.

Specifically, the Director of Major Gifts will be responsible for:

• Cultivating current and prospective major donors and drawing on strategic planning to “move” donors to higher giving levels. Donors who contribute $10,000 or more per year are considered major donors.
• Coordinating with members of the development team to plan personal interactions with donors, including face-to-face meetings and event participation. Participating in donor meetings, which may involve some travel.
• Managing development associates and providing leadership and mentorship to junior development professionals.
• Communicating regularly with senior leadership and the development team on strategy.
• Utilizing and deploying resources wisely to achieve development goals for our organizations 150+ major donor supporters.

Successful candidates will possess experience that demonstrates:

• A track-record of successful results as a front-line fundraiser and the capability to take on significant responsibility.
• Excellent communications skills and attention to detail.
• A strong commitment to individual liberty and the mission of each organization.
• The ability and willingness to travel and participate in interactions with supporters.
• An appreciation for entrepreneurship and team-work.
• The desire to mentor new development professionals. Management experience is a plus.
