Position Overview:
The Development Department of the Fund for American Studies is seeking a full-time Grant Writer to start immediately. The individual is responsible for conducting the full range of activities required to secure major grant funding ($1,000-$100,000+) from foundations and individual donors. Identifies, researches, and cultivates prospects that best align with the organization’s priorities and needs. The grant writer is responsible for submitting letters of inquiry, proposals, online applications, and follow-up correspondence on behalf of the organization in a timely and consistent manner. Also, provides stewardship to current grant funders, including working with other staff members to provide regular written updates and progress reports.

This position reports directly to the Vice President of Development.

Qualifications:
Position requires a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience. Minimum 2-4 years of development experience is required along with a proven track record of raising money. Experience with proposal writing and institutional donors is needed. Previous experience as a grant writer for a non-profit organization is desirable.

Strong written communication skills and the ability to write clear, structured, articulate and persuasive proposals is mandatory. Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills are essential. Knowledge and familiarity with research techniques for fundraising prospect research is essential. Must possess the ability to work independently, effectively manage multiple projects, tasks and deadlines, and be a strong contributor in a team environment.

Strong preference is given to alumni of The Fund for American Studies, those with a working knowledge of Raiser’s Edge, and those with a commitment to the ideas of limited government and a free-market economy.


Salary/Benefits: The salary range for this position is $35,000-$50,000, along with excellent health and pension benefits including medical, dental, vision, 403(b), paid vacation, sick, holiday and personal days.
