The Institute for Humane Studies (IHS) seeks a Director of Social Media to support a growing community of university scholars across the country in advancing a better understanding of the principles of classic liberal ideas--including a free and open society, free speech and open inquiry--and helping them to flourish on college campuses.

Envisioned as a strategic, collaborative position, the Director of Social Media will provide strategic support to our IHS communications team as well as serve as the lead social media strategist, catalyst, and conduit for the communications and marketing team. This position wears many hats, and most of them are conversation starters; the ideal candidate will live and breathe social media and the various ways it can promote, engage, inspire, and propel a message and a movement.

In this role, you would be responsible for springing the capabilities of the creative team into action. You'll manage workflow and internal client expectations around all social deliverables, including video, graphic design, copy, live content, and more. You'll translate our overarching messages for various audiences, platforms and tailored objectives, and speak analytics and data fluently; you'll need to be ready to take risks, find what works, and use the data to inform your teams and the next campaign.

Primary responsibilities:

-Support the Senior Director of Communications in building of an innovative, entrepreneurial marketing team of highly professional, client-focused, creative, nimble, and data-driven minds.
-Serve as a key voice in the creation, implementation, and measurement of a strategic social media plan that resonates with audiences and has the analytics to prove it.
-Establish clear lines of communication and collaborative partnership with the Senior Director of Communications, creative team leads, and the Content Strategist.
-Manage the day-to-day collaborative flow of the social media team, including management of the Community Manager and any external vendors.
-Apply the needs and nuances of the teams they support to the larger vision, strategy, and objectives of the organization.

The ideal candidate will:

-Demonstrate a record of success working with project and subject matter experts to developing and leading dynamic, social media campaigns.
-Smoothly implement new initiatives with a focus on audience, strategy and innovation.
-Have experience in creating a cohesive, forward-facing communications and marketing strategy.
-Possess excellent writing, editing, and communication skills, with the additional ability to quickly and persuasively tailor written materials to trending topics and specific platforms.
-Thrive under pressure, with a keen attention to deadlines and strong organizational skills.
-Understand the ongoing social experiment that is social media. You'll need to be deeply familiar with each social media platform and speak their metrics and best practices as a second language.

Position Requirements and Preferences

-Professional work experience in communications/public relations/journalism/content strategy commensurate to the role.
-Experience in higher education a plus, but not required.
-Relevant degree in communications, business, English, etc. Undergraduate degree required, graduate degree in relevant field preferred.
