Donor-Advised Fund Accounting and Technology Associate
DonorsTrust is a cause-related donor-advised fund dedicated to promoting liberty and serving donors who share our mission. DonorsTrust was established in 1999 as a 501(c)(3) publicly supported charity. Since our founding, client donors have contributed over $1 billion to donor-advised fund accounts, while recommending issuance of $1 billion in grants to civic and liberty-oriented charities.
DonorsTrust is seeking a junior/mid-level individual with a number-crunching (an accounting or bookkeeping background is helpful, but not necessarily required) and technology background. Exceptional entry-level individuals will also be considered.
The position requires the ability to solve problems independently. Strong communications skills are also desired, as the successful candidate will work closely with the DonorsTrust Team and its donor clients and grantees. The ideal candidate will be a self-learner and enjoy acquiring new skills while improving their existing technology and numbers skills. Extensive prior experience is not as important as a demonstrated ability to work with technology, work with numbers, and acquire new skills with little supervision.
The primary duties for this role will include:
Updating donor-advised fund (DAF) records in our database on a daily basis
Reconciling the aggregate donor-advised fund account balances to the account balances of various financial institutions on a daily basis
Daily and periodic updating of online information
Set-up new donor-advised fund accounts within our system
Initial preparation and review of DAF quarterly and annual account statements
Answering questions from DAF advisors concerning their accounts
Preparing other records for clients and management
Performing due diligence on prospective grantees
Filing contribution and grant documents electronically
Assisting with preparation of grant letters and checks using in-house software
Additional duties include:
Learning the telephone PBX to serve as primary or backup for programming and troubleshooting
Assist with grantee due diligence
Assist with answering phones and directing calls as necessary
Because this is an evolving position, the successful candidate can expect assigned duties to vary, but the duties will likely always be focused on technology and accounting. This role will allow room for advancement within the organization.
Intermediate to advanced skills with Microsoft Excel, Word and Access or the desire and drive to acquire such skills independently
Prior account reconciliation experience helpful, but not necessarily required provided the candidate is comfortable with crunching numbers and solving problems
Strong technology ability and interest, including the ability to self-solve technology problems
Ability to interact with account advisors and grantee personnel
High degree of discretion, ability to maintain confidentiality, and solid judgment
1+ years bookkeeping or accounting experience or recent graduate with an accounting degree useful, but not required
Commensurate with experience. DonorsTrust offers a 403(b) retirement plan and, commencing with second calendar year with DonorsTrust, a SEP-IRA plan to which DonorsTrust contributes. We also pay for parking or metro. Our office is conveniently located next to the King Street metro stop.
Qualified candidates should submit the following in one PDF file with your full name in the file name:
