Would you like to use your event planning skills to advance liberty and free markets? The Mercatus Center at George Mason University is hiring an Event Manager to design and execute events that support the Center’s research, education, and development efforts. Events Managers work across Mercatus teams developing event strategy, event plans, and lead execution to promote the Mercatus mission. This role works closely with members of the events team and across our program areas providing the opportunity to learn and grow at career within Mercatus.
-Provide primary strategic development and logistical planning for a range of events in order to advance the organization’s mission
-Oversee completion of event logistics from beginning to end, including strategic development of event concepts, program planning, venue selection, task execution, leading logistical partners, contract negotiation, speaker communications, coordinating travel, marketing, budgetary reporting, and post-event measurement
-Build and manage relationships with current and existing vendors, speakers, event attendees, and internal partners
Successful candidate will have/be:
-A strong interest in the Mercatus Center mission
-At least five years of event planning experience in a fast-paced environment
-Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
-Strong customer service experience
-An entrepreneurial spirit and strong work ethic
-Excellent attention to details, project management skills, and follow-through
-Able to manage multiple competing priorities while meeting deadlines and delivering consistently
-An ability to travel domestically or internationally
-Contract negotiation skills with hotels and vendors
-Proficient IT skills including using Microsoft Office suite
