The Mercatus Center at George Mason University is seeking an Outreach Associate or Senior Outreach Associate as part of our federal outreach team to assist with the strategic dissemination of economics research on federal fiscal policy, entitlement programs, innovation-based health policy solutions, and taxation to Congress and federal agencies. This role will work closely with members of the outreach, communications, and research teams, and reports to the Director of Federal Outreach.
-Providing up-to-date information to Mercatus scholars about current and anticipated policy action in the legislative and executive branches relevant to Mercatus research initiatives.
-Assist Mercatus outreach and research teams in evaluating the highest value contribution that Mercatus scholarship can bring to public policy debates, including original and derivative research products.
-Developing dissemination strategies and tools to promote Mercatus research to policymakers and the public in a timely manner, including policymaker briefings and testimony opportunities.
-Presenting the Mercatus Center's research to policymakers, academics, and non-profit organizations
-Working collaboratively with the Media Relations and Events Strategy teams to promote Mercatus research
-The candidate will have a solid understanding and knowledge of the federal budget process and discretionary and mandatory spending practices, as well as an understanding of relevant committee structure and procedures.
-The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three to five years' experience working in Congress.
-Interest in market-oriented ideas and understanding of economic concepts.
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
-Ability to balance multiple responsibilities.
-Curiosity, creative thinking, and interpersonal skills.
-Experience with contact management software (e.g. Salesforce) is preferred, but a willingness to learn is very important.
