The Mercatus Center at George Mason University is seeking a broadly experienced and multi-talented Senior Graphic Designer to lead and represent the design team on certain projects under guidance of the Design Director.

You will…
-Primarily focus on print with some digital asset creation and/or digital visual design as needed or talents allows.
-Consult with scholars as well partner with Marketing and Outreach departments to conceptualize and produce persuasive charts/infographics that are message/data-driven and also maintain associated global templates.
-Create custom yet branded presentation decks for scholars and special Mercatus-led events as needed.
-Contribute to creating, refreshing, and/or updating global direct marketing templates such as email newsletters, book/event flyers, global event signage system, and social media assets.
-Create new event signage, print invitations, programs, and digital slides for special Mercatus-hosted events.
-Revamp long-form and short publication templates for a consistent branded look and feel, including various chart types.
-Create end-to-end product(s) for large projects that require a variety of deliverable types, from print to digital.
-Update brand identity materials.

-Detail-oriented. You understand the superior importance of craftsmanship and creates clean files before final review with the Design Director.
-Collaborative. Great ideas aren’t created solely in a vacuum. Instead, you understand that partnering with researchers, program managers, donor relations team, or marketing team will help you gather the right requirements to build successful, accurate, and persuasive products.
-Innovative and a learner. You should have a natural inclination to seek out trends, survey the competitive landscape, and always be thinking how you can better current products.
-A Doer. Your projects are vital to furthering the organization’s mission no matter the size of a project, and you do so with pride…not ego!
-Positive and optimistic. Great ideas occur without boundaries, and a positive attitude is contagious as well uplifts those around. We want to come to the office excited, and so should you!

You have…
-5-7 years career experience. This position is ideal for those looking to advance their career with progressively greater responsibility and tempered autonomy under the guidance of the Design Director.
-Additional skills to print design. Projects can widely vary and additional skills will prove valuable, whether that’s illustration + design, photography + design, writing + design, and/or digital design + print design.
-Expert-level experience with Adobe CC applications, especially InDesign along with Illustrator and Photoshop. InCopy and Sketch a plus, but not required.
-Beneficial but direct experience not required: User experience design (interaction design, user research, information architecture), data visualization, environmental graphic design.
-Interest in economics though you are not expected to be widely versed in industry topics and terminology.
