The Mercatus Center at George Mason University is seeking a full-time, in-house Senior Research Fellow as part of our Program on the American Economy and Globalization (PAEG) team to further our mission to educate the public and policy makers on the benefits of a more open U.S. economy.
-Execute original research, leading to 2 or more research papers pertaining to international trade and the U.S.’s engagement in the global marketplace. Experience researching the balance of trade is a bonus
-Effectively communicate your findings in the form of regular derivatives geared towards various audiences such as op-eds, blogs and other social media, testimony, meetings with legislative staff, radio/television appearances, etc.
-Predict Capitol Hill opportunities before they arise in order to maximize impact
-Drive research strategies based upon Mercatus Center’s Vision, Mission, and Principles, Hayek’s theory of the structure of production of social change, and PAEG’s priorities
-A relevant academic degree, preferably a terminal degree, or a professional reputation that readily identifies the occupant as a leading authority on trade
-Thorough knowledge of U.S. trade policy and its history, as well as its current controversies
-A commitment to apply sound methods of economic, institutional, and legal analysis to current issues of public policy
-A proven record of effective communication, including papers published in academic journals, as well as more popular media outlets, public speaking, appearances on TV and radio, and use of social media
-An ability to generate timely research ideas and output, as well as to work with colleagues to successfully execute strategic plans
-A strong inclination to promote policies that emphasize the ability of free and open markets to increase economic well-being and promote positive social change
