This full-time position is expected to help manage the operation of the State Policy and Government Affairs division of Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) and its lobbying arm, Council for Citizens Against Government Waste. The manager will provide support for both the Vice President of Policy and Communications and the Director of Government Affairs, working as part of CAGW’s policy and advocacy team. The manager will be responsible for coordinating all CAGW and CCAGW activity with state legislatures, identifying and analyzing key government waste-related issues and trends, liaising with state-based think tanks, cultivating state policy partnerships, and developing content and publications related to government waste policies at the state and local levels. Travel to various states throughout the year to engage policymakers is required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Track state legislatures and issues of interest to CAGW and CCAGW.

Promote CCAGW’s legislative agenda through meetings with state legislators and staff.

Seek opportunities and respond to requests to testify before state legislative committees.

Develop and supervise CAGW’s state- and local-oriented publications.

Facilitate all state and local legislative correspondence relating to CAGW and CCAGW.

Oversee all state and local legislative research.

Provide state legislators and appropriate staff with information developed by CAGW and CCAGW.

Write articles for CAGW’s monthly WasteWatcher.

Write op-eds in local or national newspapers relating to CAGW/CCAGW state and local policy issues.

Complete any and all other tasks as assigned by the Vice President of Policy and Communications and the Director of Government Affairs.
